Each company leader was taught the fundamentals for developing and operating a successful construction company from their father and longtime construction executive, Dominic Santaite Sr., who instilled the pillars that drive Montana’s steady growth today: Integrity, hard work and respect.

Lisa Ballerini
Lisa Ballerini’s story is anything but ordinary. Born in Englewood, NJ, to Italian immigrants Dominic and Natalina Santaite, Lisa grew up in Bogota, NJ, where she attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School and graduated from Bogota High School. With dreams of fashion design, she earned a full scholarship to Berkeley College of Business. But life had other plans—and they involved a lot more dirt and heavy machinery than designer fabrics.
In 1993, Lisa’s dad started Montana Construction for her brother, Vincent. A year later, he asked Lisa for a little help with office work to save money. That “little help” turned out to be a life-changing decision. By age 19, Lisa was fully immersed in the construction world, switching her major to Business Administration at Bergen Community College and working nights to build the business by day.
Lisa was a one-woman show—finding leads, ordering bonds, establishing credit, even delivering materials to job sites. Her no-nonsense approach to managing the company’s slim budget fueled steady growth. By Montana’s second year, the company’s revenue surpassed $1 million, and her father and brother knew Lisa had the chops to lead. Eventually, she was promoted to President, steering Montana Construction to become a powerhouse with 220 employees, an impressive fleet of equipment, and annual sales over $100 million—all while surviving the 2008 recession like a boss.
Lisa’s leadership and grit have earned her a spot on the boards of UTCA and the New Jersey Alliance for Action, as well as numerous industry awards. But she’s not all business—she’s been happily married to her husband, Steven, for 15 years, and her favorite titles are "Mom" to Mia Rose, 17, and Paul John, 11.
From fashion student to construction queen, Lisa proves that with hard work and a bit of daring, you can build an empire—literally!
